Sorry for the lack of Mack pictures this last week. We moved on the 15th to Fairfax, VA and we are still trying to dig ourselves out of the box pile. In fact, I am not sure that I can locate the camera.
Lots more pics later!

The Bravery - Part II
As Craig noted, Mack had her first set of immunizations a few weeks ago. Much to our surprise, she did not scream with the full Mack Attack volume; she mostly just protested. We dodged that bullet....this time!
Our decision to give Mack the full set of her first immunizations was not an easy one. The media, celebrity spokes people, etc have made it clear that with there is an "autism crisis" that may be linked to immunizations. We were (and still are) afraid that we may create a life of medical problems for Mack all due to one seemingly simple decision. As good academics, we went to the research. Here is what I found:
1. There have been many valid studies done over the last decade that exclude the link between autism and immunizations. I teach stats so I checked the methodology on some of these studies.
2. There are concerns over the amount of aluminum, mercury, and formaldehyde in certain immunizations.
3. There are concerns over the combination of immunizations that are standard on the immunization schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
4. Immunizations are not just to protect the individual child, but also to protect the public. This is a public health issue.
5. Babies that enter day care and/or are formula fed are at increased risk and should be vaccinated. Breast milk and decreased exposure to other kids decreases the risk of contracting an illness.
6. There is a alternative immunization schedule that may help to elimate the concerns in point 2 and 3 above. (See the Dr. Sear's book)
If you are struggling with this decision, I suggest that you read the Dr. Sear's book on immunizations (Thanks to Mike an Wren who have us this book!). After all, you have to be comfortable with your own decision AND give your kid Tylenol before you go to the doctor (this is what we did with Mack and it helped).
Good luck!

Bumbo!
So this is my summer workspace. The kitchen counter. With baby!
The Bumbo chair pictured here is pretty awesome. Mack likes it (at least as long as her patience for anything lasts), and it teaches good posture. And, I can't deny it's throne-like quality, which is fitting since we're her parent-slaves.
