Chilling out with Dad

That's exactly what we are doing. The family was visiting the Norfolk Botanical Gardens this past Saturday, and this pic was taken while we're taking refuge from the crazy, humid, Virginia heat.

What are you, a comedian?

Actually, I think Mack thinks everybody is a comedian.

The Bravery - Part I

So, Mackenzie courageously submitted to the first of her immunization shots last Friday. Yes, that's right, we elected to have our child vaccinated. Without going into too much detail - First, this was an informed decision. Second, we weighed our options. And third, we have a healthy appreciation for both the strengths and limits of scientific research on the subject.

Mack did admirably - and was only a little sleepy for the rest of the day.

I'm sure Jaime will have something much more intelligent and instructive to say on this subject; hence the "part I."

Some Grandparents This Way Came

Grandpa Art and Grandma Kathy toured the Norfolk homestead and inspected Mackenzie for gross negligence on our part. Thankfully, we were cleared to continue parenting. The WMDs, however, were cleverly hidden in an unnamed Middle Eastern country. No one will find them there, bwahahah!

Good Form

Mackenzie is moving along down the highway of learning. She is now holding her head up while on her stomach; edging ever so closer to her time to crawl.

Can you believe what I heard on NPR today?

Mackenzie expresses her concern over the high price of gas. And her recent change in diaper brands.

No kidding?

So, we're moving to Fairfax, VA on July 15. We'll be sending out notifications of our new address very soon.

In the meantime, Mack continues to amaze us. She's grasping now, and we've seen her put her pacifier back in her mouth (when she's not shoving her fingers in there). And she is doing very well with her belly time (as indicated in previous posts).

Learning the act of crawling

"Look at that butterfly. It is so colorful and bright. I must get you Mr. Butterfly..."

"Hmm, where are my legs and arms? What is this thing called crawling that I hear the parent-slaves talk about. They did mention something about moving my arms and legs. Oh wait, are these my arms and my legs?"

"Yes, they are mine! Those parent-slaves think they are so smart. I will show them. So, I just keep moving in a worm like fashion and I got it! I am coming to get you, Mr Butterfly."

"There you are! Now, what was I doing?"

Visit from Grandma Vicky and Trinity

Grandma Vicky and Cousin Trinity came to visit last week to help us while I was teaching an intensive week-long seminar. Thanks for all your help!

Do you see the resemblance?!

Leave it to the professionals

Grandma Vicky took Mackenzie to get her picture taken this week. Needless to say, the pics are too cute. And I'm amazed at how they manage to tease out such great poses and expressions (especially from spirited babies like Mack).

New Pictures

So, in the interest of experimentation and availability, I've added a new Flickr photo site for pictures of Mackenzie. Remember to click on the "all sizes" link to get access to the resolution you want to download. If you sign up for Flickr (which is easy; even easier if you already have a Yahoo ID) - you get access to more options, like ordering prints online. Even Mack is happy about it!

The Mirror Stage

Mackenzie has discovered how interesting mirrors can be. She can't help but stare at them. I'll leave speculation of what this means psychologically and philosophically to the rest of you informed readers.

Living room safari

Ever vigilant, the lioness watches over the youngest member of the pride.

Mack Scale

Just to give you an idea of how big Mack is, compare her to the godzilla-sized monstrosity she is pictured here with. That's right.. Mackenzie is 375 feet tall.
